After months of speculation and guesses today Global Radio owners of XFM UK Rock station have announced their plans for the future of the station. As they plan to rebrand the radio station to Radio X later this month.
XFM is a UK rock radio station that launched in 1997 and the year after was bought by Global Radio in which they broadcast in London, Manchester and Scotland. The station is facing the closure in Scotland as the station will be broadcasting across the UK on DAB Digital Radio.
For the first time the station will be available in Northern Ireland on Digital Radio as XFM wasn't available in the region.
There will be some familar names that will be part of the new Radio X including Chris Moyles ex Radio 1 Presenter who will front the weekday Breakfast show from 6.30am. Others include Radio and TV presenter Vernon Kay, Ricky Wilson from Kasier Chiefs and former Capital Breakfast host Johnny Vaughan.
XFM previously featured some of the world's best rock musicians and also some new unsigned artists including some from Northern Ireland but will Radio X still have that element ?
The new station's is claiming that it will be "First truly male focused" radio station in the UK aiming at 25-44 year olds and that isn't going down to well on Twitter as a lot of female fans of XFM with some calling for a boycott of the new station.
Radio X has been trending all day on Twitter and here is some of the outrage from female fans of the changes to the station:
